Sailing with Sea Food

Monday, 4 May 2015 / No Comments
Hi everyone! welcome back to Our Foods and Cuisine blog! So today, i want to write something Fishy (get it?! ^^). So i decided to write about SEA FOOD! yay!

So Sea Food is basically anything you can eat that comes from the Sea such as Fish, Shell Fish, and Seaweed. In ancient times, even Whales and Dolphins are considered as a Sea Food meals. But, we don't eat them anymore. Or at least, i don't. Most Seafood is caught by fishing, but nowadays since the demand of sea food is rising, Some do cultivate fish so they don't suddenly extinct.

Seafood was discovered back in the paleolithic age about 165,000 years ago in South Africa. Archaeological evidence found that Sea foods was an important survival meal and was consumed in a significant quantities. The Egyptians illustrated methods of fishing in tomb scenes, drawings, and papyrus records. In Medieval times, sea foods was seen as an alternative to meat. In war time, Fish are dried and salted. In Europe, Seafood was more expensive compared to meat and was eaten fresh and raw, while some was dried, salted, or smoked for food stock. Nowadays, Seafood is more popular and common to eat. Even though some are more expensive than the other, seafood now are more affordable than before.

Seafood consisted the groups of Fish: Marine Pelagic (Feed and live near the surface), Marine Demersal (Live and feed near the bottom), Diadromous (Fish that migrate between Sea water and Fresh water), and Fresh Water fish (can be found in lake, ponds, and rivers). Molluscs: Clams (Oyster, scallops, Mussels, Cockles), Gastropods (Sea snails), Cephalodopods (Octopus, Squid, Cuttle Fish). Crustaceans: Shrimps, Crabs, Lobsters, Krill. Aquatic Mammals and Aquatic plants.

Sea Foods are consumed all over the world and is considered the world's prime source of high-quality Protein. The nutrients and mineral that is consisted in sea foods can improve brain developments and reproductions based on the research over the few decades. Fish dishes can also prevent you from having a heart attack because of the omega-3 in fish can help lower the amount of Cholesterol in blood. Consuming more oily fish is also proven to be able to boost brain power so that we can remember better and think faster. Including Fish in your daily meal also helps to reduce the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis (a conditions that causes joints to swell up).

About Mercury For Sea Food

But it's not all good in fish. Like every other ingredient, fish also have a bad thing in them. Ever since the industrial revolution, many industry have been throwing waste to the sea, and Contaminate the sea with Mercury. Fish and shellfish contained Mercury in them, so when we eat it the mercury accumulates in our body. And when it gets too much, we would be having Mercury Poisoning. Mercury is highly dangerous for human and the ecosystem. Especially for Women who are pregnant, a Nursing Mother, and Children.

So, consuming enough Sea foods is healthy for us, but too much is a no-no. well, everything is a no-no when it's too much right? also, try and find some fresh sea foods when you want one. Pay attention to the smell and springiness of the meat, that'll help you to know whether the fish is fresh or not. So, that's all from me folks, Tell us what to write next on the Comment Section.
