Hi there everyone! So I was, once again, looking through my old Disney movies this time on the cartoon section. And i found my favorite movies of all times: Alice in the Wonderland! The cartoon is just odd, cute, imaginative, and is everything that i imagine about what should be a 'Wonderland'. And there's the scene, when Alice just fell to the hole and found a table that has the 'Eat me' cookie. So, i think that's it's going to be cute to make one! But, instead of just making the 'Eat me' cookie, i'm going to show you guys how to make all Alice related decoration. Enjoy!!
Cookie: I'm using the basic sugar cookie, cause it's easier to decorate and the taste is neutral, perfect with the icing ;) but if you want to use other cookie recipe, it's okay.
- 2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 2 sticks unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Icing/Frosting: if you want a simple frosting you can go and buy tube icing that they sells in grocery stores. They sell it in every color!
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 4 cup confectioners sugar
- 5 tbs milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- blue, red, yellow, pink food coloring, the color depends on what character you want to make.
Method:
- heat the oven to 350 F (176 C).
- in a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- mix together the butter and sugar until fluffy (you can use electric mixer to make this. put it in medium-high speed). beat the eggs one at a time in to the batter, and add the vanilla extract. After all is mixed, then add the flour.
- line the baking pan with parchment/baking paper. if you want, spray them with a little bit of oil spray so the dough doesn't stick.
- roll the dough until it's wide and smooth enough to cut. then cut it with your Alice in the wonderland character cookie cutter. you can find them online.
- after you cut it, gently pop it out of the cutter on to the baking sheets, make sure to give 2 inches space so that they wont stick while baking. bake for 12-15 minutes until the cookie color are golden.
- while baking you can make the icing. in a large bowl, mix together confectioners sugar and shortening until smooth. slowly, add the milk and the vanilla extract to the mix. then mix again for 5 minutes until it's smooth and stiff. separate them in different bowls so you can add in different colors.
- after 12-15 minutes of baking, pull out your cookie and let it cool for 5 minutes. then you can start decorating you characters!
- after decorating, place the in a pretty platter to serve.
