How to Make Pepes Tahu

Happy Saturday everyone… today I still make a post that staring tofu as our softy and silky tofu.
How To Make Pepes Tahu

Before i already posted Chinese and Japanese food that made from tofu. This time I want to post about the traditional food from by beloved country, yes that’s it Indonesian food. The food is called as ‘pepes tahu’ the taste is little bit spicy and wrapped with banana’s leaves.
See the picture below, it looks tasty right? You can try to make this one at home. Its so simple.

Ingredients:

500gr firm tofu, mashed
200gr button mushroom, sliced
10 prawns, peeled and diced
10 red chilies, sliced thinly (you can use bird eye chili if you want it to be burning HOT)
1 beaten egg
10 bay leaves
Some banana’s leaves
Spices
4 cloves of garlic
5 cloves of shallots
3 candle-nuts
1 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
Chicken powder
Salt, pepper and sugar to taste

Steps:

1. Mash the tofu with the fork until the lumps are gone.
2. In a mortar pestle or a food processors, ground shallots, garlic, candle-nuts, coriander seeds and add a little salt till smooth.
3. Mix mashed tofu, egg, the blended spices, mushroom, prawns , turmeric powder, chicken powder, salt , pepper and sugar to taste in a bowl. And then add the sliced chilies into the bowl.
4. Prepare the banana’s leaf and put one or two bay leaves in the middle of the banana’s leaves.
5. Put the tofu mixture above the banana’s leaf and wrap the tofu mixture nicely.
6. Put the ‘pepes’ inside the steamer and cook for about 30 minutes.

Open the banana’s leaf and the pepes tahu is ready to serve. You can enjoy it with the rice. It will be such an interesting food for your family time.
