Chinese Dumplings

Hi there everyone! Welcome back to Our Foods and Cuisine Blog, Today i'll be writing about Chinese Dumplings since my mothers making it often. Enjoy!

Jiaozi

Jiaozi or Chinese Filled Dumplings are commonly eaten across Eastern, Central, Western, and Northern Asia. Jiaozi usually consist of ground meat and vegetable wrapped with thin dough sealing it by pressing together the open ends. Jiaozi has flatter features and are usually eaten with soy-vinegar sauce or hot-sour chili sauce. There are Three ways to cook Jiaozi: Boiled, Steamed, and Pan Fried. Jiaozi was told to be created by the man named Zhang Zhongjin in the Eastern Dynasty period. This dumplings are commonly eaten on Chinese New Year celebration and Year Round in the Northern Province.


Wonton

Wonton are made by filling pork meat or shrimp to a square thin dough made by flour, eggs, water and salt. And sealing it as we like. Wontons usually are served in clear soup or deep fried eaten with hot-sour sauce. The preparations and eating style are different for every country in China.

Chinese Symbolic Food

Hello everyone… do you like Chinese food? Do you that Chinese food has several meaning or symbol that influence the demand of the food. This time I want to tell you about come Chinese food meaning or symbol. Here we go…

1. Noodle

For Chinese, noodle is the symbol of long life. When you eat noodle, it’s not good to cut off the noodle. The story said that cut the noodle will give you bad luck. So, if you eat noodle it will be good if you don’t cut the noodle.

2. Spring Rolls

Because the shape of spring rolls are similar with the golden bar, this food become the symbol of wealth.

3. Lettuce Wrap

Some Chinese food are wrapped with lettuce. Lettuce become the symbol of rising fortune because in Cantonese word for lettuce sounds like rising fortune, so it is very common to serve a lettuce wrap filled with other lucky food.

4. Fish

In Chinese language the word for fish is ‘Yu’. In chinese language ‘Yu’ also means wish and abundance. In the New Year most of Chinese people serve a full fish (with a head and tail), it’s the symbol of the abundance from the beginning until the ending of the new year.

5. Steamed Cake

Cakes such as Sticky Rice Cake have symbolic significance on many levels. Their sweetness symbolizes a rich, sweet life, while the layers symbolize rising abundance for the coming year. Finally, the round shape signifies family reunion.

After we know about some food that become a symbol of wish, now the foods are not only something to full my body. But foods are something to express our hope. Because life is beautiful, and the food also.

Dessert Around The World: Indonesia

Hi there everyone! So today's dessert destination is my home town, Indonesia! Enjoy!!

Cenil

Cenil is a sticky coconut cake made with three color: Pink, Green, and Yellow-ish. It's made from starch flour, salt, Pandan leaves, Pandan water, and food coloring. It's served with banana leaves plate, and sprinkled with sugar and grated coconut. This sticky cake is sort of a comfort food for the 80s-90s generation in Indonesia, kids also like this cake because of the color and the small servings of it. It taste kind of savory and sweet and the same time. Perfect to eat with lemon tea or milk tea.

Roti Buaya 

Roti Buaya or Crocodile Bread is a two pieced sweet pastry from Betawi (Jakarta).  This pastry is made from Yam or Cassava. This bread is only eaten and found on a special event or wedding ceremonies. In wedding ceremonies, this bread symbolizes fidelity for one another because Betawi people believed that a crocodile is a faithful and patient animal.

Bakpia Pathok

Bakpia Pathok or Bean Baked Cake is a Chinese Influenced baked pastry. It have a round shape and soft crust and usually stuffed with mung beans or red beans, but now days Bakpia have various stuffings such as chocolate, cheese, Durian paste and other flavor stuffing. It is easily found in Central Java in Yogyakarta city. It came in many sizes and thickness, and is the most popular souvenir in Indonesia when you visit Yogyakarta.

Gelato

Gelato or Gelati is the Italian word for ice cream. This type of ice cream is made with Milk, Cream, Sugar, and various flavorings such as fruits or nuts. Gelato have lower calories, fat, and sugars than normal ice cream. Gelato is popular in 1920s-1930s in the city of Varese.

Angel Wings

This traditional pastry dessert is made of thin dough shaped to twisted ribbons and deep fried and topped with sugar powder. Angel Wings are usually eaten on Festivals and Carnivals, such as lent, mardi gras, fat Thursday, and Friday the 13th.


Semifreddo

Semifreddo means semi-frozen, is a typical Ice-cream cakes, semi-frozen custards, and fruit tarts. The texture is like a frozen mousse, cause it's made by uniting two equal parts of ice cream and whipped cream.

Apple Pie

An Apple Pie is a double crust tart filled with apple served with whipped cream or ice cream and cheddar cheese. Apple Pie was brought to English colonies by the British, Dutch, and Swedes during the 17th and 18th centuries. And was popular by the 18th century in Delaware. The ingredients used in apple pie are ordinary pie crust and cooked apple (the apples can be Bramley, Empire, Northern Spy, or Granny Smith which have a crispy texture and sour taste).

Fudge

Fudge is a Soft and sweet dessert made with Sugar, Butter, and Milk at 116 C, then beating it to a smooth, creamy texture while it cools. The traditional American Style fudge is a chocolate fudge, and was popular from the 19th century.

Well, you've got the image from the title right? It's a coca-cola flavored deep fried dough! Basically you make a dough batter with coca-cola poured in the batter, deep fried it, and then top it off with coca-cola syrup, whipped cream, and cherry. This food was invented by Abel Gonzales on 2006 Texas Fair.

Chocolate Souffle


This dessert is made from egg yolks and beaten egg whites (well basically eggs), sugar, and Chocolate. This dessert have to be served and eaten immediately so that the Souffle wouldn't drop, Cause Souffle is an airy cake. 

In France, Souffle is usually eaten with an orange liquor with citrus-like flavor called Grand Marnier. 

Souffle contains 2 basic ingredients, which is the base or a flavored cream sauce and beaten egg whites. The base is the flavor provider and the egg whites is the 'lifter' for the souffle. Also, Souffle can be made two ways: The savory ones (which you can enjoy when you wanted a light snack) and the Sweet ones (that you can enjoy as a dessert).

Brazil

Quindim is a Brazilian Dessert, with yellow color, shinny surface, and a custard consistency. The ingredients to make this baked dessert are coconut, sugar, egg yolks, and butter.

This Dessert was originally from Portuguese and was brought to Brazil by slaves on the 17th century. 

Bolo De Rolo or roll cake in English, is another Brazilian desert that looks like a cake. The cake batter is made from flour, eggs, butter, and sugar (the typical cake batter ingredients), and the dough of the cake batter is coated and layered with melted guava. After baked, the outer cake of the Bolo De Rolo is coated with sugar. This dessert is the intangible heritage of Pernambuco.

1. Deer Penis Wine: So, apparently Chinese athlete drinks this wine because of the wine's powers of healing. But not only that, This wine (well most drinks that includes deer penis) is believed to be able to enhanced "Male performance". Hmmm.... dare to try boys?

2. Rainbow Beer: In Japan, there's this Beer Factory called Abashiri Brewery which is  famous for their Rainbow Beer. No, this beer doesn't have the rainbow color all in one bottle, they have 4 colored beer in 4 bottled said to be inspired by the 4 season in Japan. So, the Winter beer, Ryuhyo Beer, is brewed with iceberg water. The summer beer, Hamanasu beer, comes from the hamanasu fruit. And the fall beer, Jyaga beer, is made of purple potatoes. Weird ingredients indeed.

3. Peruvian Frog Juice: Rana y maca is made of frog caught from lake Titicaca in Peru. The frog is banged until dead then is liquefied in a blender along with bean broth, honey, aloe vera, and macca (Andean root). The result is a starchy, Milkshake like liquid.

4. Bust Up Drinks: Give it up to Japan for having the solutions that any girl would dreamed of! This drink produced by Kohimitsu Japan supposed to help women enlarge their breasts. One of the ingredients of this drink is the root of Pueraria Mirifica of also known as Kwao Kura Kao, is a plant contains Phytoestrogens that can help preventing breast cancer and tightens the vagina.

  1. Cure Indigestion and Constipation: Lemon juice can cure Indigestion and helps purifies your blood. Add a couple drop of lemon to your dish (do not mix with milk) or drink lemon soda or lemon  water after every meal will help your digestive problems also makes your body feels refreshed. 
  2. Dental Problem: Applying lemon juice to the area where you fell toothache can help you get rid of the pain. And when your gum is bleeding, try to massage the lemon to your gum, it will stop the bleeding and erase the smell that comes with various gums diseases.
